Charity Support - The Kintsugi Project

The Kintsugi Project is a social enterprise based in Plymouth that help create safe spaces for disadvantaged individuals within its community. They take their name Kintsugi (pronounced Kin-soo-gy) from the Japanese art form of fixing broken ceramics with gold. The art form of Kintsugi can be seen as a metaphor for embracing your flaws and imperfections. The Kintsugi Project in Plymouth want to work together within their community to make it better and more beautiful.

The Kintsugi Project is about building a better community, that includes everyone.

This non-profit organisation works with many people that have a disability, long term physical conditions, learning difficulties, autism, mental health difficulties or people that don’t have a steady place to live or have survived something traumatic.

The Kintsugi project offers many activities that can help better their community. They have a Community Garden, which is Plymouth’s first accessible allotment garden. This year they have been able to add to the Community Garden a converted storage container. They have also added electricity, heating and other comforts to the container to create an in door meeting place at the garden. They also hope to raise funds for a medium sized poly tunnel this year which will help grow crops and produce for the community fridge. The community fridge started in 2021 and was set up for people in need to collect food with no need of any proof of their position. The garden has been supplying vegetables and any waste has been returned to the garden compost.

They also offer an Art Workshop, and they’re working towards creating a community space for all to “hang out, jam, chat, share food and drink and be together.”  The Kintsugi Project also have their own radio station, which can help individuals learn a new skill and test their confidence across the airwaves by making their own radio show or podcast.

The Clever Baggers are delighted to be able to support this wonderful organisation, providing them with financial support as well as donations of personalised products to assist with their community projects.

“I am full of admiration for the people at Kintsugi who devote their time and energy helping others achieve a feeling of self-worth. I think the work they are doing with disadvantaged people, particularly those with mental health problems, deserves our full support.” –
Vivian Lacey-Johnson (Clever Baggers Co-Owner/Director)
