Meet The Team - Purchasing Manager

Name - Sandra

Job RoleMy current job title is Purchasing Manager, which means I spend most of my days talking to suppliers of various kinds – not just the products themselves, but also services like shipping goods to us and delivering them to our customers. I’m the kind of person who gets fascinated by minutiae & loves digging into data, so it suits me quite well.

Tell us about you – I’m the kind of person who doesn’t really like putting too much information about themselves up on the internet – except for when I overshare on social media – basically, I’m your stereotypical millennial (except for when I’m not). I live in a village up in the mountains with my husband, two cats, a variable number of chickens, and an ongoing project of a house & garden. Contrary to popular belief, we don’t actually have a small holding just a lot less grass in our garden than most people prefer.

Activities / Hobbies – I’d be lying if I didn’t put reading at the top of this list (fave authors: KJ Charles, Jackie Lau, Adrian Tchaikovsky, Nicola Davidson). I also write & have had some stories published though they’re all out of print at the moment. Most of my stories are historical fiction / historical romance so I do a lot of reading for research as well as pleasure.

I also like travelling – last year we discovered the joys of Interrailing with a trip through the UK, Netherlands, Germany, Switzerland, Italy, France, Belgium and back to the UK and I’m currently in the middle of booking accommodation for a planned road trip around the northwest USA including visiting relatives in western Montana, but I love a good day-trip to somewhere interesting too.

Favourite meal to indulge yourself in? – Am I cooking or just eating? If the latter, I love a meal out with a group of family or friends at a good Indian restaurant, when there’s enough of you to order lots of dishes & share them out between you. If I’m cooking at home then I’d have to say Christmas dinner – we’re very relaxed with timing on when we eat that so I can spend as much or as little time as I like playing about creating sauces and side dishes.

Favourite Film Ever After. Absolutely hands-down, no question about it, this is the film I will reach for over & over again, and likely never get tired of. So many little witticisms, wry observations, top-notch character acting, and (spoiler alert) the heroine rescues herself. Yes, I really do put it ahead of The Princess Bride even though I quote that movie far more.

About you in the company – I’ve been with The Clever Baggers for 13 years now, starting as a heat press printer, and I think the only departments I’ve not worked in are Sales and Accounts. If you’ve called with a query about the delivery of your parcel over the last few years, it’s likely that I was the person on the other end of the phone as I was Fulfilment Manager before moving into my current role in January. I’m also often the person everyone comes to with questions about the order management system, or “Do you think we can make the website do this?” because I was heavily involved in the setting up & development of both systems and I love figuring out how to make them do what we want.

What do you like best about working for Clever Baggers? – The people.

Favourite product? – There’s a special little place in my affection for our
tablet cases, because that was the first product developed by The Clever Baggers from an idea I had, and I have one of our LG-3726-10VNL bags for carrying all my bits & pieces from home to work and back again each day, but I think overall my absolute favourite item is our 15x20cm cotton drawstring bag. They’re super-handy for storing and organising things around the house, garden, shed, chicken run… and I have a bunch of different coloured ones I use for packing small items in my suitcase using the colours to remind me what is in each one.

Plain or Printed? –  Keeping the hardest question for last, eh? I’m tempted to say “plain bags, printed tea towels,” because I love how eye-catching the plain bags can be with all their different colours, but I do have a bunch of reject print bags at home which I use for shopping and it’s very handy to be able to say, “The wine’s in the Waitrose bag,” or “The presents for your brother’s family are in the bag with a chicken on it.” So, in conclusion, I don’t know?
