Reducing waste the Clever Baggers way!

We're all familiar with the saying, "Reduce, Reuse, Recycle", and - as increasing numbers of news stories tell us - when it comes to reducing waste from single-use plastic products we need to all change our habits as quickly as we can.

Take, for instance, the figures recently released by the House of Commons here in the UK. By replacing non-recyclable cups and other food containers with eco-friendly alternatives, encouraging the use of reuseable cups, using refillable sauce dispensers rather than individual sachets, and replacing plastic bags in their shops with paper ones, their aim is "to remove, as far as possible, disposable plastic items from the Parliamentary Estate."1 Shockingly, we are informed, Parliament currently throws away 125,000 plastic water bottles, 753,000 coffee cups and 335,000 sauce sachets per year!

Here at The Clever Baggers we are a slightly smaller organisation than HM Government, but - like you - we are always seeking improvements in how we work.

With our move to new premises, we've been able to make a number of improvements to the working environment for our team, including provision of chilled and ambient water dispensers in work areas as well as standard facilities in the canteen. One of our concerns with installing water dispensers is that most models utilise single use plastic cups - not ideal for either a production environment or for environmental reasons. Our MDs, therefore, came up with a better solution: at our recent celebration of moving to new premises, every Clever Baggers team member was presented with their own reuseable water bottle in a personalised bottle carrier (printed by us, naturally). We're now easily able to stay hydrated at work, and thanks to the handy carrier it's just as easy to use the bottle in everyday life as well, all while reducing our dependence on single-use plastic.

How Clever is that?
